About the Event
“Concrete Colloquy: Communities speaking through artists”
Artists Coalition for Change Together is seeking 5-10 minute performance pieces for a 1-day, muli-location, outdoor performance to be held between September 12-22, 2018. We invite artists to engage with organizations in communities throughout the Greater Rochester Area to facilitate a creative collaboration. The intent is to highlight that particular organization’s mission through an artistic performance. This could manifest in different ways. Examples could be sharing stories of challenge, highlighting the history of the organization, or illuminating stories that share strengths.
We seek pieces 5-10 minutes in length that will be performed in the Fringe 2018 Festival. Each piece will be performed simultaneously and multiple times within a 60-minute time frame. The audience will circulate from piece to piece during the hour of the performance. Ideally, this will be outside on sidewalks or in parks, so take this into consideration when creating. You must provide all technical needs.
We ask creators to identify an organization with whom they are interested in collaborating. After identifying the organization, all creators must take on the role of facilitator and listener in order to identify the topic that informs the collaborative piece. We remind you to consider strengths, struggles, resources, beauty and multiple identities of your community as you present this story. Consider the following questions while crafting:
What is the mission of the organization or what defines the community?
Whose story is it?
Who is performing it?
How is the community/organization involved in crafting, performing, presenting?
We hope that this work will establish a connection with your organization and its community. The Fringe Festival is one performance opportunity - if interested, ACCT will facilitate future presentation opportunities in the community of origin.
